Arrive at Estancia Los Potreros and settle into your room. Join your hosts for a welcome lunch on the verandah, before taking an introduction to the wonderful horses and relaxed western-style of riding. Enjoy a sunset ride to ‘The Bellstone’ to learn a little more about the history of the estancia and surrounding areas. A candle-lit dinner provides the perfect end to the first day.
For something uniquely different, today we try our fabulously smooth and forward-going Paso Peruano horses. Ride to our beautiful waterfall, and take a refreshing dip in the clear waters. Return to the estancia for a typical Argentine ‘asado’, and after a well-earned siesta help the Gauchos to round up the mares and foals to protect them from the elusive puma.
Our cook Pato invites you into the kitchen this evening, to try your hand at making some empanadas and other local dishes.
A day with the cattle today, helping the Gauchos with bringing them in or taking salt out to the herd. A picnic at the cattle station is followed by the chance to challenge our gauchos to some lassoing in the corrals. The afternoon ride back enjoys some fast canters up to the ‘The Top of the World’ – the highest point on the estancia, with spectacular 360-degree views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Kevin Begg invites you to a wine tasting this evening to sample some of the Malbecs that Argentina is famous for.
We take a picnic with us today on horseback to explore some of the rural life in the area. We visit the local Dominican church and the rural school that is attended by the children of the local gaucho. The glorious ride back takes us by Potrero de Niz, the original Begg family home set in a privileged position on top of the hills. Farewell dinner.
After a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs, depart for your onward travel.
