About National Park Los Glaciares
Created in 1937 and declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1981, National Park Los Glaciares extends over almost 700,000 hectares of mountains, lakes and forests, including a large section of the Andes, almost covered with ice and snow on the west, and bordered by the Patagonian steppe on the east.
As a result of the thawing of this giant ice mass, two large lakes have been formed: Lago Argentino and Lago Viedma, which pour their waters onto the Atlantic Ocean, and which run along the province of Santa Cruz, creating the serpent-like Rio Santa Cruz. There are more than 300 glaciers inside the Park, of which only 13 are well known, being the famous Perito Moreno, the Viedma (the largest of Argentina) and the Upsala (the second in size) the most outstanding glaciers of the park.
There is a large and interesting flora and fauna inside Los Glaciares National Park. Visitors may enjoy safaris in the Andean Patagonian watching Huemules (stag-like Andean rumiant), pumas (South American panther), red foxes, hares, purple eagles, woodpeckers and the majestic Andean condor. 80,000 hectares of the park are covered with lengas, the mazard tree, distinctive red flowers.

USHUAIA
General Information
Ushuaia, Capital of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, is the southernmost city of the world, is located on the island of Tierra del Fuego, a coast first spotted in 1520 by Hernando de Magallanes as he explored the area in search of a route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Ushuaia -which in the yámana language means “bay overlooking the West”- is surrounded by Mount Martial to the West and by Mounts Olivia and Cinco Hermanos to the East. Located on the shores of the Beagle Channel, it offers a unique landscape, which combines mountains, sea, glaciers and forests.
It is more like a mountain village, lying between the rugged coast of the Beagle Channel and the low mountains that protect it from the cold southern winds.
With a whimsical geography, Ushuaia has adapted its features to modern construction, thus developing a very quaint city. It has a very good hotel and gastronomy infrastructure which pleases the expectations of international visitors.
As a result of its location, close to the South Pole, in the summer it has approximately eighteen hours of light, whereas in the winter, it only has seven or eight.
The main activities here are fishing, sheep breeding, sawmills and small industries, such as assembly plants for home appliances. Ushuaia has been declared a free port as an incentive to settlers and tourism because of its geographic isolation.
The winter in Ushuaia is fascinating: driving sledges pulled by dogs, walking through the snowed valleys, practice some Nordic or cross-country ski are some of the activities to enjoy a different winter.
Its people, its origins, its mysticism and its nature are discovered in every step we make. Ushuaia: the end of the world, the beginning of everything.
